30 Goals In 30 Days: #5 vs. STL, Nov. 12

Catch up: #1 (Series Explanation), #2, #3, #4

This goal came halfway through the second with Ward, Legwand, Weber and Suter on the ice with Hornqvist. Joel Ward took a faceoff to Chris Mason’s left, with Legwand at the far wing and Hornqvist strategically closest to the goalie. Ward gets the puck off the faceoff and takes a pretty harmless shot, which dribbles behind the net.

Joel does his best work against the boards, and here being no exception, he spins past a defender to get back in front of goal. Meanwhile, Hornqvist scampers back and forth in front of the net, mirroring Ward’s movements, hoping to be in perfect position for a pass or rebound.

With the defender still in his face, Ward spins back around and shoots the hockey equivalent of a fadeaway jumper, before being hit.

The shot bounces softly off the left leg-pad, but Hornqvist anticipates the rebound faster than Mason (a surprise to no Preds fan) and taps it through the five hole.

To this point, all five goals had come with Hornqvist in the crease-area, three off rebounds.

I most fondly remember this game, however, for bluesfans.gif, which resulted from Jordin Tootoo’s game winning goal. Click the jump to see the image:
